Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same genealogical or historical interests. My family tree is here on WikiTree but it's private.
I am open to communication within the project[s] that I've worked in, and to issues relating to shared personal genealogies (I'm related as most South Africans from European descent are, to many of the same ancestors). I have though taken the decision not to work on project profiles anymore, for reasons of methodology. Due to constant duplication of existing pre-1800 profiles because of various understandable reasons, merely editing the bio's in a neat fashion is a recurring full-time day task. Even with an abundance of primary records, a 'sourced' profile does not guarantee valid research and accuracy. The changes tab is useless when a profile has been merged countless times (many times more than 5 to 10 times). Besides, it is not visible to those who are not logged into WikiTree.

Hello,

I am in awe of your work. Well done. I am currently writing my family history into a novel. We are related in that:

Maria (Vitout) Noutier (1666-bef.1711) (your eighth great grandmother) is the sister to Sara Vitout who married Jacques de la Porte from whom I am directly descended. I am dyslexic and struggle with finding my way around the genealogy sites especially when dates or names don't match! Do you have any information on the sisters Maria and Sara. It appears there is a 19 year gap between the two of them which I find difficult to get my head around. I do hope you, or anyone else who reads this, will be able to help me out here. Wishing you all the best... Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline, thanks for this wonderful acknowledgement, though I must qualify it directly by saying that if it were not for the countless contributions inside and outside of WikiTree of other much better researchers and greater genealogists than I, that I would not have had anything at all to show. The only thing that I will take credit for is my insistence on neatness, by preserverance in using when editing the bio's of the project profiles (also during the countless merging because of duplicates created), as much as possible the so-called Scholarly Method and specifically the Historical Method. This translates into the practical protocol of signing our edits of the collated facts with our names, dates and the sources used, and subscribing / adhering to discipline in using this method.

It is much easier validating profiles in a resources rich environment as the The Dutch Cape Colony Project and the South African Roots Project has, when the data is collated and not immediately narrated.

As with the rest of WikiTree, we value accuracy above all, and it we strive to attain that by working together in collaborative fashion (hence the names - easier for communication purposes).

As for your information on Maria (Vitout) Noutier (1666-bef.1711) and Sara (Vitout) de la Porte (1681-1724) ... could you provide your source[s]? Then we can collate the data and research further ....

Vriendelike groete, Corne

Hi Philip

Thank you so very much for the suggested merge of Susanna Aletta Zondag/Otto and Michiel Otto 1783 and the completed merge of Susanna van Aswegen, Cornelia Viljoen/van Aschwede and Johannes van Aswegen/van Aschwede. I really appreciate the time that you put into all of this and checking that they are correct. Thank you for that. Kind Regards Hazel

Hi Philip

You just completed a merge of Roeloff Cornelius Gideon Botha-5925 into Roelof Cornelius Gideon Botha-5458, thanks for this. However I was busy awaiting the merge of his mother first as per the merging instructions (I had just completed the father - so not to worry about that), would you pretty please now merge the mothers?

Thanking you kindly Pam

Hi Pam, you wrote: "Hi Philip, You just completed a merge of Roeloff Cornelius Gideon Botha-5925 into Roelof Cornelius Gideon Botha-5458, thanks for this. Thanking you kindly, Pam" The merging of the mothers will happen when the managers are ready. I tried and just got the message that the merge of the profiles have been already proposed. This is normal in WikiTree. You said you were waiting but the proposal of the 2 Roelof Botha's could have been done by anyone who had signed the honor code, as it was found under 'All Pending Merges Waiting for Action' (Most-Recently Added). In WikiTree merging instructions are not always correct. Cheers, Philip

Groete Peet

Last month, I visited the French speaking Walloon church where my Wife’s ancestors were members in the 1600s. They were Huguenots.

Inside the sanctuary of the church, there were many burial plots with markers engraved in the floor. I took several photos. I was wondering if some of these people could be ancestors of Wikitreers.

Any suggestions of where I might post these pictures of the church and markers on Wikitree so people might access them?

My apologies, Philip. I am currently participating in the Source-a-Thon, but I had added the profile in question to my bookmarks so that I could return to it after the Thon is over. Thank you for your diligence!

You posted it as a comment, not an answer, so I cannot "thank you" thank you, so here is my "thank you" for actually seeing my point and acknowledging its validity. (Clarity is everything, so if this isn't clear, let me know!)
